What Next?

It soon became apparent to me that this layout really wasn't for me. Why's that?

I'm definitely into trains going around and around, just running and running. But not a often as on this layout. Really, this boils down to the lower loop only because you cannot just let run multiple trains on the top level because it's a demolition derby waiting to happen. And the lower loop is not very long. So the longest route you can have is once around the bottom, up to the top, half a circuit of the top and down to the bottom. Repeat ad nauseam.

And you cannot run a very long train because of the excessive 4% grade on the back (not to mention the 3% grade on the front).

Turns out that's another thing I like - long trains. And perhaps more importantly, so does my son.

What else do we like?

  • A yard with a capacity for lots of cars. Doubled ended would be best.
  • Passenger trains - the sharp curves of the GS & SV RR really don't make this easy.
  • A turntable and some facilities for diesels.

Sounds like I'm accumulating my druthers for my next layout.

So.....No more roundy-roundy, we're off to the Scranton layout
