Vendors
Internet "Local" Hobby Stores
I have bought stuff from many vendors over the years. Here are my primary sources:
Wig Wag Trains
|
I get most of my stuff from George & Debra Canham. There are a number of reasons for this:
- Great prices
- They respond to every email
- Almost flawless accuracy over hundreds of items
- It's simply easy to deal with them this way.
All of my advance reservations are placed here.

4NScale (Rio Grande Hobbies)
|
Another place that has great prices, an extensive website and delivers things reliably after you place your order.
|
Fifer Hobby Supply
|
I've only bought a few things from Mike Fifer. However, those
items have arrived quickly and he also has an online inventory
system which means that you know that you can get what you order
quickly. On several occasions, I have found that he has decoders
when others have not. Mike does have an online inventory count
which is pretty useful.

Brooklyn Locomotive Works
|
Probably the lowest prices in general on the internet for N-Scale goods. But only by a hair.
Pretty much Wig-Wag, 4NScale and BLW have similar pricing. Every order that I have placed here
has always arrived in a timely fashion. The only problem I have is that I cannot ever remember
them responding to an email inquiry about availability. Same thing with faxes too. Obviously, I
could call, and I have done on occasion, but that's not the point.
Still, that doesn't stop me from ordering from them when they have something I need that others do not have..

MB Klein
|
MB Klein has an extensive inventory of N-scale products. In addition, then have an online
inventory system which appears to represent what they have on hand. Put it this way, I have bought
things that have only one in stock according to the inventory count and, sure enough, it arrives quickly.

Litchfield Station
|
Litchfield Station bills themselves as Mr. DCC and have a DCC "university". Anyway, they are
big into DCC stuff. Especially as Loy's Toys is no longer.
|
Walthers
|
Walthers is the author of the
N & Z Model Railroad Reference Book,
which pretty much describes
a huge chunk of what is available in the market place. They also charge full list for everything,
whereas most other internet vendors discount anything from 15% to 30%. If there is something at
Walthers, then I general order it through my LHS, West Point Hobby in Redford (see LHS below).

Local Hobby Stores
There are quite a few LHS available in the local area, but only two that I actively shop at:
West Point Hobby
|
If there is something at
Walthers, then I general order it through West Point Hobby in Redford (sorry no website). They
are nice people and they also give a 10% to 20% discount from Walthers prices.
|
Joe's Hobby
|
A very extensive Micro-Trains and Atlas locomotive inventory in this multi-discipline
store - trains, planes and automobiles. They charge full list for everything.
