About Me & Trains

Born in the early 1960's, I grew up in England as a deprived child - I never had a train set I want a train set

Well, we had lots of Lego, including an electric train and rails that I cut up to make turnouts (the blue track in the picture, though that's a purchased turnout). But not a real train set. The old blue lego train track connected to the new stuff

We had lots of Scalextric (slot cars) too (the picture at the side is from my friend Joe Fialka's Tanaka circuit). We had 4 lanes, cross-overs, pits, chicanes; the lot. But not a real train set. Joe Fialka's Tanaka Circuit, modelled in Scalextric

I traveled to school on trains. Real trains. I traveled around Europe too. Real trains. But still no train set. Le train à grand vitesse - France's TGV

I remember when I was about 11, the 16 year old brother of a friend was hand laying Z-scale track for a small suitcase size layout he was building. I thought it was a amazing, the small trains and the tiny buildings and scenery. Z-scale MOW crane

Fast forward fifteen years and my first son is born. Great, this is the opportunity I'd been looking for and so, I set out on a mission to get my train set.........
