Hills, Tunnels & Bridges

Nay Aug Tunnel - looking at the west portal.

This is a fictitious tunnel west of the Nay Aug Tunnel. This becomes the Bloomsburg Branch when it reemerges from the foam. The track in the foreground is the end of the road for the triple tracking up to Nay Aug. This was washed out in 1958 by the Roaring Brook overflowing as a consequence of Hurricane Diane . It was never re-laid.

The hills east of Scranton at Nay Aug Tunnel are gradually being formed. They will not go much above this height and the top will be removable to service the double main through the tunnel as well as the single track that leads back to the Bloom.

Bridge 60 is prototypically 420' long. This model is 335' long. All that is missing is an extra span on the left between Seventh Street and the CNJ railroad plus an extra bridge support between the CNJ and the Lackawanna River. I omitted the extra span due to space considerations. The extra bridge support is omitted because it does not fit the contour that I cut out for the river too well. It is possible that I will fit this sometime.

The relative height of each layer is maintained from the prototype. Here is an engineering schematic of the bridge.

This photo shows the vertical curve between the level grade on the left and the 2% Woodland Scenic incline on the right. Using flex track, you get a very smooth transition.

The WS incline has had about the outside 1/3 removed so that it is the appropriate width for my application here.
