Backdrop & Scenery

I got a number of photo-type backdrops from Scenic Express which are about 13" high and 38" wide.

The first step was to get some 1/4" masonite from Home Depot which they cut for me into 12" wide strips from the 4'x8' sheet that I bought. This was useful for two reasons: first, I didn't have to do it and second, I could then fit the 1'x8' pieces into my car.

Here we see the masonite attached to the wall with a couple of small nails in each of the studs. I have 1" below it to the layout so the backdrop will be level with the top edge.

The two-sided tape is poster tape from Office Depot/3M. It is removable.

Being just 1/8" thick, this can be bent into quite a sharp corner.  I'm guessing this is about a 12" radius, maybe tighter.

You can see the 1" foam blocks that I am using to get the spacing above the layout consistent.

The backdrops are now in place. They are affixed by two-sided tape from Office Depot. This is called poster tape and is for putting on your wall and removing. That means I can take these backdrops off without ruining them. Well, at least that is the theory.

Here is the view of the yard with the cityscape in the background. You can also see the curve in the corner.

And the view from the other end of the yard.

The backdrops worked out perfect for the end of the shelf portion of the layout.

Take a look at my trees page, which is a discussion on the trees that I have found.
